First Event has been completed!

WooHoo!!! Philly Diva Socialites represented as only a Diva can!  We worked hard leading up to this event and each of the 16 Divas crossed the finish line (take a look at our pictures.  Not only did we run, walk and participate in the Kids Run we also had Divas who volunteered at this event as well as families and husbands present as well.  Truly a great job and a worth while cause.

Philly Divas on the run...Catch us if you can!

Well tomorrow is our first official team event Get Your Rear in Gear Run and we are ready!  We have 16 Philly Diva Socialites enrolled and ready to go bright orange t-shirts and all. YAY!!!

The weather for tomorrow 8:30 am will be clear and 32 - 34 degrees. So I recommend dressing in layers, wearing hat and gloves. I will be wearing lycra leggings and a lycra camisole under my long sleeve shirt (all very light weight, the cami will keep the sweat off my body and insulate my body) I plan to throw our team tshirt over my long sleeve top. I usually wear a breathable cap while running for three reasons, one the bill will block sun glare, the band will absorb sweat and keep it out of my eyes and the "breathable" cap will help to regulate my body temps (keeps my head warm in winter and cool in summer).

Tomorrow you will be introduced to the concept of "throw away clothes". During chillier weather, race participants will dress in layers and will remove layers as thier bodies warm up. The clothing they discard they rarely retrieve by the runner, hence the term "throw away clothes". There is a group of people who will collect and recycle the clothes for the homeless...

Heading into training Week 4

We'll we are in the thick of it now!  We are starting to shed winter's hibernation mindset and we have taken our workouts to the streets of Kelly Dr and into the studios of hot yoga. The women of Philly Diva Socialites are consistently coming out and working out and some are starting to see early signs of improved fitness... so high-five.

We are gearing up for the first event of our fitness challenge the Get your Rear in Gear run March 20 which focuses on raising awareness about colon cancer.  Please come out and support us.

WooHoo!!!

Well let the training begin!

Today we had 16 Philly Divas come out and strut their stuff on kelly drive and the Art Museum steps as we got down (lterally) and began our process of getting fit.  The spectators were hype... Come on out and find out what the hype is about for yourself!  Hopefully we'll see youth next week on the drive as the Divas go for 3 miles join us or eat our dust lol!

SUCCESS - Philly Diva Fitness Challenge Kicks Off with 27 women

Our Philly Diva Fitness Challenge 2011 kick off was a success!  With a delicious catered lunch provided by Michael Scipione of Sano Catering, our group of 27 women have commited to taking the Philladelphia fitness scene by storm. The icing on the cake is that we have about 6 women competing in the SheROX Sprint Triathlon as individuals and we will potentially be showcasing 3 (yes THREE) relay teams.  This means that at the very least there will be at least 14 Philly Divas on site for the Aug 7th triathalon event.  I am SUPER EXCITED.

Please check back often for progress updates as we get this ball rolling Sat February 12 on Kelly Dr.

Staying Fit on the road

I don't know if you know this but ever since I have lived in Philly I have traveled for work, this was also the time I started training for and competing in fitness events. The key to success is planning. Here are some things that I do... while traveling for work:

-I book hotels that either have a fitness center or ones that are near a scenic park
-I travel with workout Dvds and resistance bands. I love Jillian Micheal's 30day Shred because it has modularized interval training like workouts (really good in a time crunch) and the resistance bands are a light weight alternative for weight training.

Now staying fit while on vacation is all about fun! This is where an "active" lifestyles comes in. So rather than seek out fitness centers I look for fun activities to do at the resort or venue of my vacation. Things that will (discreetly) raise my heart rate. For instance on my recent vacation to Bali I walked and hiked my way throught sight seeing and shopping and worked up a happy perspiration! For a CA vacation I am thinking beach and boardwalk. So here are some ideas:
-walk or jog on the beach
-start up a game of beach volleyball or frisbee
-play on the surf
-walk the boardwalk for 30-40mins
-swim in the pool and tread water for 5min intervals
Just some ideas.

I will am currently in CA for work and will be taking every opportunity to walk as not to derail my own fitness goals.  This means briskly walking from gate to gate in the airport and walking to and from the office.  Happy travels!
